Halcott is a rural town in Greene County, New York. It is located within the Catskill Mountains, approximately 85 miles southwest of Albany and approximately 140 miles northwest of New York City. It is one of the least populated towns in New York State. , the town had around 240 residents. The only community in town is the Hamlet of Halcott Center. The town covers twenty-three square miles, the vast majority of which is forestland. The town was established in 1851 and was named after Sheriff George W. Halcott.
