Rensselaer County, New York
Rensselaer County is a county in New York State. It is considered part of the Capital District region. The county is sandwiched between the states of Vermont and New Hampshire to the east and the Hudson River to the west. Across the river is Albany County and the City of Albany. To the north is Washington County and to the south is Columbia County.
Rensselaer County was formed in 1791 and named after Kiliaen van Rensselaer, a Dutch merchant who was one of the founders of the Dutch West India Company. The county covers six hundred and sixty five square miles. It contains fourteen towns and two cities. The largest city is Troy, which is also the county “seat”., the total population of Rensselaer County was approximately 159,000.
